Maritime Association of Shipowners Shipmanagers and Agents (MASSA), a maritime body in India, will initiate a massive drive to vaccinate at-least 10,000 seafarers in India.
The drive will be launched in collaboration with various maritime bodies across India, which plans to inoculate Indian seafarers free of cost.
“We will kickstart our COVID vaccination initiative (from) June 10 onwards and aim to inoculate at least 10,000 Indian seafarers with Covishield doses in Mumbai within a fortnight,” said Shiv Halbe, CEO, MASSA.
The drive will also be sponsored by various shipping companies in India. MASSA plans to launch more such drives, as the availability of vaccines increase.
Drives like these would serve as a blessing for many, as India fights a deadly second wave of the COVID-19 crisis. More inoculations would mean inclusivity of more Indian crew onboard ships, thus promoting livelihood. As, un-vaccinated seafarers are not allowed to sail anywhere around the globe.
