[Video] Container Ships NP Pathum Thani and O.P.K.3 Collides In Thailand, One Sinks

Thailand-flagged feeder container ship O.P.K.3 collided with NP Pathum Thani, another Thailand-flagged feeder container ship in the afternoon of Tuesday, 2nd November. The incident occurred off the Chao Phraya river in the Bangkok region, while the 1995-built O.P.K.3 was departing from the Bangkok Port, on its way to Laem Chabang and the 50 meter-long NP Pathum Thani was moving upstream to Klong Toey Harbor in Bangkok, arriving from Laem Chabang.

Both the vessels were loaded with containers, when NP Pathum Thani’s bow struck O.P.K.3’s starboard side, before O.P.K.3 veered off course and the vessel’s portside hull was breached, which caused a massive water ingress, making the ship rest on bottom in the shallow waters.

NP Pathum Thani too, was slightly damaged, while there were no reports of crew-injuries. The superstructure and partial cargo deck of O.P.K.3 remained above the waterline.
