GATE examination in India, would now be allowing candidates to take up marine engineering and naval architecture papers from the year 2022.
In India, Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an exam, which is taken up by candidates for pursuing post-graduation courses in the field of engineering from the top institutes, and for jobs at companies wholly or partially owned by the Government of India. It contains papers from every branch of engineering available to study in India. However, it lacked the papers for marine engineering & naval architecture. This has now been taken care of, in a meeting held yesterday, and the chairman of the committee thus announced, that Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering papers would now be added to the GATE examination.
For Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering cadets in India, this decision comes as a blessing, as they would now have a clear path in pursuing a post-graduation course in the subject, for those who want to settle for a shore job. Also, now there is a definite way of joining government companies after the completion of one’s pre-sea training. Something which lacked earlier. Overall, the decision has expanded opportunities for cadets in India.
