A Japanese-based trio of marine engine manufacturers has formed a joint venture to model hydrogen-fuelled propulsion systems.

Japan Engine Corporation, Yanmar Power Technologies, and Kawasaki Heavy Industries have concluded a joint venture contract and investment in HyEng Corporation, with each company taking an equal share.

As a beginner, HyEng Corp. will see the three partners pursuing the development of hydrogen-fuelled marine engines. This will take in the development of the basic engine technology, developing international rules and standards for hydrogen supply systems, the integration of supply systems, and maintenance and operation of hydrogen fuel engine demonstration facilities.

Yanmar reported that, with the establishment of HyEng Corporation, the trio will further advance their joint development activities and accelerate their drive to develop new markets for decarbonization in the marine domain.
