Fire erupted in the cargo hold of a Panama flagged general cargo ship, Affluent Ocean, on 2nd June, 2021.

The incident occurred, while the ship was anchored in the south of Stonecutter island, undergoing cargo operations, carried out by floating crane and barges. The ship was loading metal scrap, which was to be shipped to Vietnam, during the incident.

After 15 hours of continuous firefighting, with water-cannons tugs and fire boat, the fire was finally put out on 3rd June, 2021. The ship had developed a heavy portside list, as water poured into cargo hold during the firefighting operation. The crew were reportedly of Chinese and Indonesian nationalities. There have been no reports of injuries, and all crew members are safe. They have been put under quarantine.
