Foreign Crew Banned From Signing-Off In Malaysian Ports

Malaysian authorities have announced the decision of not allowing foreign nationals to sign-off in Malaysian ports. The announcement comes amidst the nationwide movement control order, which is implemented to keep a check at the spread of COVID-19.

This decision was announced by Malaysian Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong. The order suggesting the ban of foreign sign-offs is currently from 12th May, to 7th June, 2021.

The order has a proper guideline for other shipping operations too. Which includes dockworkers, pilots and others involved.

Ship pilots have been asked to wear PPE and face shields while piloting ships. SOPs have been implemented, which will determine how the cargo is handled on foreign vessels and would be done by the Port authorities after JLM permission have been obtained.
